Kia Ora and welcome to Character Kidz!
My name is Jitender, and together with my husband Guru, we are proud to continue the wonderful journey of Character Kidz – the home of New Zealand-made cultural and educational costumes for children.
Character Kidz was founded with a vision of helping young learners explore, understand, and celebrate the diverse cultures that make up our communities. As the new owners, we are honoured to carry this vision forward and continue creating high-quality costumes that inspire learning through imaginative play.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Beatrice Galway, the founder of Character Kidz and an award-winning designer. Beatrice has generously shared her knowledge, skills, and passion with us, and I am incredibly thankful for the guidance and expertise she has passed on. Her dedication to quality craftsmanship and cultural education remains at the heart of everything we do.
All of our costumes are proudly handmade in New Zealand and thoughtfully designed to support cultural awareness, inclusion, and respect. We believe that when children learn about their own heritage and the cultures of others from an early age, they develop empathy, understanding, and a genuine appreciation for diversity.
We are committed to honouring the rich cultural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand, including the traditions and values of Māori, while also celebrating the many cultures that make our country unique.

TULANI, Beach Haven Kindergarten
We have been buying dress ups form Character kidz for many years now. They are made from quality materials and last the numerous costume changes that children go through everyday at Kindergarten. The designs are culturally sensitive and there is always something new our children would love to wear. From beautiful dresses, capes to firefighter costumes.

Character Kidz created 35 Kapa Haka uniforms for our school in early 2019. The attention to Detail and finish of these uniforms was consistently of a very high standard. We were able to talk about our needs, negotiate sizes and now we have a set of kappa Haka uniforms that all our students can wear with pride. This has raised the children’s attitudes, expectations and performance to a very high level. The children have performed at our school events , in community events and festivals with much more mana.
